The World Travel & Tourism Council (WTTC) recognized Sonora with the Safe Travel stamp for being a destination that complies with all hygiene and sanitation measures in attention to sanitary protocols for mitigating COVID-19 infections.

The Tourism Secretary, Dr. Luis Nuñez explained that the protocols established in the “The Construction of the New Normality due to COVID-19 Guide” in Sonora are aligned with those of the WTTC, which allows, as one of the benefits of being a Safe Travels destination, being able to issue this Stamp to any subsidiary destination authority or company that is also aligned with its own protocols. Likewise, it supports any certification of state initiative as a complementary international seal.

The Safe Travels stamp was developed, endorsed, and launched by members of the WTTC, an organization representing private sector tourism companies, with the help of the World Health Organization (WHO), the Centers for Disease Prevention, governments, and other industry associations such as the International Air Transport Association (IATA), in order to recover tourism globally while taking care of the health and safety of employees, visitors and, consequently, of the industry.

With this certification, travelers can identify destinations and companies around the world that have adopted the standards of the WTTC so they can experience safe travel. Also, thanks to the members of the Sonoran tourist family, with their support, professionalism, and commitment this recognition was achieved.
